What does EPA mean and how has that affected stoves?

EPA-Environmental Protection Agency

1991 Manufactured Stoves-Phase II are required to produced only 7.5 grams of weight pollutants per hour.  If you have a stove that was manufactured before 1991 you may want to consider upgrading to a new certified gas, pellet or wood unit.  It will run more efficiently and be more effectively in heating your home.

EPA approved stoves are:

  • Now under standards and are build to run more efficiently

  • Burn less wood

  • Heat better.

You may want to purchase an EPA approved stove that has a high efficiency rating.  Depending on manufacturer:

  • Wood stoves are 68%-72% efficient

  • Gas Stoves are 78%-82% efficient
